ESTONIAN PIANO ORCHESTRA

The Estonian Piano Orchestra made its debut in the 2002 Tallinn International Piano Festival when eight Estonian pianists who play in four piano duets decided to form a new piano ensemble.  The Orchestra's debut in London was in 2011 and in China in 2015. The Piano Orchestra performs in prestigious concert venues in Estonia - the Estonia Concert Hall in Tallinn, as well as in the cities of Tartu, Pärnu and Jõhvi and elsewhere. The repertoire of the group ranges from Bach to new, commissioned works by living composers. It includes original works and transcriptions of music by Mozart, Weber, Wagner, Smetana, Ravel and other composers. The ensemble is a keen commissioner of new music. The premieres of new works from Estonian composers - Jaan Rääts "Concerto for eight pianists", Urmas Sisask "Voices of the Universe", Peeter Vähi "Pianist´s  Internet Week", Ülo Krigul "Aquaspherics" - have been a memorable part of the ensemble's concerts. Within their programmes the ensemble often combines to form different kinds of "surprise ensembles" ranging from 2 to 8 pianists.
